Carbs Are Killing You! Why Eating Fat Doesn’t Make You Fat

When you begin to even think about eating carbohydrates you start secreting insulin – oh my! So this vicious insulin secreting, fat storing cycle continues – when insulin levels go up, we store fat. Conventional dietary advice has been to eat low fat for years now and we got fatter because when you cut out the fat you automatically increase the sugar / starch / carbohydrate ratios and therefore increase insulin. Fat gives us that full satiation feeling so we do not feel hungry again until the next mealtime. Many people are now terrified of consuming fats as they believe fat will make them fat, they are hungry all the time, feel miserable with low energy and dry skin and hair and will show the signs of aging far more rapidly than someone who is consuming good fats. It is essential for the body to have fats, that is why some fats are called EFA’s – Essential Fatty Acids. Cholesterol


I have recently found a new blog that I find super informative written by Peter Attia, MD. He addresses many topics that my clients have questions and concerns about and therefore I wanted to share his information with you. He is very interested in insulin resistance and lipidology, the science and study of lipids (fats). This post that I have included below is his latest starting a series about Cholesterol and is so important to understand and not be frightened into taking statin drugs when not necessary and when they could actually be harmful. I suggest you subscribe to his site so that you get notification when he writes a new post and follow along on this series on Cholesterol. It could save your life!

Food Cravings and Emotional Eating

Food cravings can get the better of us all and can lead to the most determined to weakening and eating something they really did not want to eat. There are two types of cravings – physical and emotional. Lets talk about the physical first.

Our bodies are often malnourished and mineral deficient and often the desire/ craving for a certain food is the body trying to get that missing mineral or some essential fatty acids, for example, many people are magnesium deficient and guess which food has a lot of magnesium – chocolate. Many overweight individuals are malnourished (plenty of food with very little nourishment) – they have a diet severely lacking in real foods and often eat non fat products in an effort to lose weight along with high amounts of sugar and starch, what I call empty calories or another way to look at it – Non nourishing calories. When the body is not receiving proper nourishment it is always going to be trying to get what it needs leaving the person hungry most of the time. That along with the addictive qualities of sugar and wheat (see previous posts) and you have a cocktail for a never ending cycle of weight gain, depression and ill health. The bodies signals are often untrustworthy and detrimental to our health such as a craving for sugar may be because you have an overgrowth of bad bacteria (candida) that is calling out to be fed with sugar – Feed Me! and unless you starve yourself of sugar and take action to increase the good bacteria in your colon you will continue to suffer unbearable cravings for sugar.

I advise all my clients to consume raw dairy whenever possible. In most states it is illegal and they are trying their hardest to do the same here in California.
